A secret salary outside the accounts a new crisis hits Infantino

Gianni Infantino faces new allegations of financial transparency following revelations that he received an additional $1.76 million payment from a US company linked to the organization of the 2026 World Cup.

The British newspaper "The Times" reported that documents submitted to the US tax authorities showed that FWC2026 US Inc paid the sum to Infantino, who is president of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), in addition to the compensation and bonuses he received from the International Federation during the same year.

FIFA's annual report indicated that Infantino received approximately 4.27 million Swiss francs, equivalent to about 3.88 million British pounds, during 2024, without including the additional payments mentioned in the US documents in his total declared entitlements.

This information raised questions about the extent to which the International Federation adheres to financial disclosure rules, especially since its regulations stipulate the need to disclose the compensation received by the head of the organization.

In this context, Miguel Maduro, the former president of FIFA's Governance Committee, considered that the failure to disclose the additional payments, if it is proven that they were paid to Infantino by parties linked to the federation and not disclosed, represents a clear violation of the rules, calling for an investigation into the matter.

The documents showed that the amount paid by the American company included $626,229 under the heading "other reportable compensation," along with other components of the financial package.

Newspaper reports also quoted an informed source as saying that Infantino may have received similar, or larger, payments during 2025 and 2026, but this information was not presented as confirmed amounts in the published reports.

The case also touched on Infantino's stay in a luxury home in Miami during the World Cup preparations, after reports raised questions about whether the additional payments were linked to his accommodation expenses. However, no conclusive evidence was presented to prove that these funds were used for this purpose.

In response, a statement attributed to a FIFA spokesperson indicated that the compensation of the federation president and other contractual benefits are subject to procedures determined by the relevant committee, and that related financial obligations are disclosed in accordance with applicable US legal requirements.

As the controversy continues, questions are focused on why the additional amount did not appear in Infantino’s declared compensation for 2024, and whether the payments were subject to the required disclosure procedures.

No court ruling or official decision has yet been issued convicting Infantino of any wrongdoing, while the case remains linked to accusations regarding financial transparency and disclosure mechanisms within FIFA.
