The ownership files of the Saudi Al-Nassr club are witnessing escalating activity, as reports have revealed that talks are in their early stages, led by a Saudi-American investment alliance, with the aim of acquiring the largest share of the club’s stock.
According to what was published by the American newspaper Semafor , Redbird Capital, the owner of the Italian club AC Milan, is leading talks with the Saudi Public Investment Fund to buy 70% of Al-Nasr’s shares, in partnership with Saudi Media, which operates in the media, sports and entertainment sectors.
The available data indicates that the negotiations have not yet gone beyond their initial stage, and no final agreement has been reached so far, which means that the details of the potential deal and the ownership percentages are subject to change before reaching their final form.
This move comes as part of the Public Investment Fund’s efforts to restructure its sports investments and attract private capital to Saudi clubs, after years of heavy spending on bringing in international stars.
It is worth noting that the fund had previously sold a 70% stake in Al-Hilal Club to Kingdom Holding Company, owned by Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, in a move that reinforced the trend towards privatizing clubs.
According to Semafor, the Public Investment Fund is working to address Al-Nasr's debts, estimated at around 800 million Saudi riyals, equivalent to approximately 213 million dollars, by arranging commercial sponsorship agreements with companies within its investment portfolio, in an effort to improve the club's financial position and prepare it to attract investors.
Those involved in the potential deal believe that boosting commercial revenues and improving the financial position would facilitate the transfer of a majority stake to the new investors, with the possibility of leveraging the network of companies and partnerships affiliated with "Redbird" and "Saudi Media Company" to develop the marketing and commercial aspects of the club and expand its presence in the American market.
According to the American report, one of the most prominent details of the potential deal is the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo acquiring a 20% stake in Al-Nassr.
If this scenario comes to pass, the Portuguese star will move from the role of player and team captain to the role of investor and partner in the ownership of the club.
This hypothesis becomes more important in light of Ronaldo's entry into the field of football investment, after his company CR7 Sports acquired a 25% stake in the Spanish club Almeria earlier in 2026, in a deal that was also linked to the Saudi Media Company.
However, all these details remain within the framework of initial negotiations, and the parties have not reached a final agreement on the ownership structure or the total value of the deal.
