Brentford FC, in cooperation with the British police, has moved to identify the person responsible for a strange and dangerous incident that occurred during the match that ended with Liverpool beating Brentford 2-1 last Saturday.
A video circulating on social media showed a person kicking a rugby ball from the roof of a nearby high-rise building towards the "Getek Community" playground, amid laughter and cheers from people who were at the scene.
According to the footage circulating, the ball hit the roof of the eastern stand before reaching the pitch area, where another clip showed a worker carrying the ball away, while play continued.
Brentford issued an official statement yesterday, Monday, confirming that the incident had been referred to the police, and that support was being provided for investigations aimed at identifying those responsible and taking appropriate action against them, noting that the matter could lead to prosecution.
The club said this behavior was "dangerous and could cause serious harm," stressing that the safety of fans, players, staff and referees during match days is a top priority.
Concerns are heightened by the location of Brentford's stadium, which is surrounded by tall residential and commercial buildings, making throwing or kicking objects from above towards the stadium a potential danger to those below.
The repercussions of the incident were not limited to the spread of the video, as the case became the subject of an investigation to identify those involved, amid warnings that imitating such behavior could lead to serious injuries.
Brentford lost the match despite taking the lead, after Liverpool scored two goals through Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak, while the home side finished the game with nine players after Yehor Yarmolyuk and Vitaliy Yanelt were sent off.
