Afrizal and Handayani are the mainstays of the individual boccia gold medal

Two Indonesian boccia athletes, Muhamad Afrizal Syafa and Handayani, are expected to win additional gold medals in the men's and women's BC1 individual events at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games.

"BC1 still has a chance. The boys and girls of BC1 have a really good chance, Afrizal and Handayani," said Indonesian Boccia Coach Coordinator Islahuzzaman Nur Yadin in Nagoya.

According to Islahuzzaman, Indonesia's chances in the BC1 individual event are quite promising based on the results of evaluations during preparations and a number of trial championships before departure to Japan.

However, the competition is expected to be tighter in the BC2 classification, which is strengthened by Felix Ardi Yuda, Muhammad Bintang Satria, and Gischa Zayana.

He said the two Thai athletes were tough competitors in the men's division, while Hong Kong's representatives were worth watching in the women's division after defeating Indonesian athletes in the final trials.
