Egypt lost to their guest South Africa by one goal to nil in the match that brought the two teams together on Sunday evening at Cairo Stadium as part of their preparations for the upcoming competitions.
Ahmed Shobeir spoke on his television program on Al-Nahar channel, explaining that the goal scored by the South African national team came as a result of a serious mistake by Mostafa Shobeir, citing the advice of the late Mahmoud El-Gohary, the former coach of the Egyptian national team, regarding how goalkeepers should deal with difficult situations.
Shobeir said: “Mahmoud El Gohary always taught us that the goalkeeper is like a pilot, you have no business dribbling (you are invited to dance), you take the ball over the striker, but there was an excess of confidence from Mostafa Shobeir, and he wanted to dribble past the opponent and receive the ball. This is not the job of a goalkeeper, but only of defenders and players.”
He concluded: "Perhaps this will be a lesson, because sometimes overconfidence leads to these results and provides a lesson for future matches."
During the September break, the Egyptian national team played two matches in the first and second rounds against Angola and South Sudan.
Egypt drew with Angola in the first round match in Cairo, and in the second round match they beat South Sudan 5-0.
