"China noted the announcement by Brazil's Supreme Electoral Court of President Lula's victory in the second round and expressed its congratulations on the result," Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was declared the winner of Brazil's presidential election, defeating his rival, Flavio Bolsonaro, in a tight race. His victory secured him a fourth term in office.

Brazil's Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) announced that Lula had secured 51.76 percent of the valid vote, while Bolsonaro secured 48.24 percent, a difference of more than four million votes.

"China stands ready to work with Brazil to advance the building of a community with a shared future between China and Brazil. We respect the choices of the Brazilian people," Guo Jiakun added.

The results represent an unprecedented development in Brazilian political history.

In the first round of the presidential election on October 4, Bolsonaro won with 47.03 percent of the vote, while Lula received only 45.16 percent. A massive, intensive campaign for three weeks leading up to the second round was inevitable.

The results of this presidential election thwarted the Bolsonaro family's attempt to reclaim the presidency. Flavio, the 45-year-old Brazilian senator, is the eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

Lula, who previously served as President of Brazil from 2003 to 2010 before winning his third term in 2022, will begin his fourth term on January 5, 2027.

Lula defeated Senator Flavio Bolsonaro in the second round of the presidential election, winning 51.79 percent of the valid vote, or more than 60 million votes. Bolsonaro, meanwhile, received 48.21 percent of the vote.

Lula also promised to lead all the people, strengthen his country's position in the world, and implement an ambitious climate agenda after being re-elected on Sunday night
"No one is obliged to like the president-elect, but he must lead for everyone," Lula said while addressing his supporters.

Lula expressed his thanks to the Brazilian people and promised to respect all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation.

The victory gives Lula a fourth non-consecutive presidential term, after wins in 2002, 2006 and 2022.
