Data standards must be ensured to be implemented in all agencies

Telecommunications observer Heru Sutadi emphasized the importance of the government ensuring that all agencies implement data standards following the ratification of the One Data Indonesia Law, or SDI Law.
The Indonesian House of Representatives approved the ratification of the Draft Law on One Data Indonesia into law at the 9th Plenary Session of the Indonesian House of Representatives for Session Period I of the 2026–2027 Session Year.

"Once ratified, the biggest task is to ensure that data standards are truly implemented by all agencies, so that the public receives more targeted services and the government can formulate policies based on correct and accurate conditions," Heru said.

He stated that the ratification of the SDI Law is very important, considering that the government produces and uses very large amounts of data for various needs, including development planning and the implementation of programs in the health, education, and social sectors.

The Executive Director of the Information and Communication Technology Institute said that the SDI Law includes provisions regarding data standards, metadata, reference codes, master data and national data catalogs, and data guardians.

According to him, the SDI Law can serve as a foundation for addressing issues related to data discrepancies between government agencies. However, the law's implementation cannot automatically address all government data issues.

In implementing the law, Heru said, it is important to determine who is responsible when there are data errors and ensure regular data updates.

"Every agency must have clear data quality indicators, regular updates, and a correction mechanism. One Data must mean one standard and one reference, not just one system," Heru said.
