He hopes the evacuation process will proceed quickly, especially for residents who are still trapped in the flood and need help.
The member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the West Sumatra I Electoral District also emphasized the importance of the presence of officers in the field to ensure that aid reaches residents in need, including vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and residents requiring special treatment.
"We must ensure that no one has difficulty accessing assistance. Basic needs such as food, clean water, and shelter must be met so that people can get through this emergency situation safely," he said.
He also hopes that flood management will not only focus on evacuation during emergencies, but also pay attention to the recovery of residents after the floodwaters recede.
"Once conditions begin to improve, the community also needs attention so they can safely return to their activities. We hope all affected residents are kept safe and the situation recovers quickly," said Athari.
The flooding is known to have occurred after heavy rains inundated Padang City since Saturday afternoon. According to a report from the Padang City Regional Disaster Management Agency, Koto Tangah and Kuranji Districts were the most severely affected areas.
Head of the Padang City BPBD, Hendri Zulviton, said officers are currently focusing on evacuating residents trapped by the flood.
