The report indicates the spread of cases of internal phone screen damage among users on social media platforms, some of them during the first day of receiving and using the device.
At its annual conference last September, Apple announced the new phone with an innovative design and dimensions that mimic a passport, new dimensions that several companies such as Samsung and Xiaomi have begun to adopt in foldable phones.
Deliveries of the phone officially began last week at a price approaching the $2,000 mark, but due to the pressure on phone demand, Apple has postponed deliveries to some users for varying periods. Some will receive the phone in November, while others have had their deliveries postponed until the beginning of next year.
For its part, Apple has not issued any statement regarding the delay in delivering the phone or even the damaged screen crisis, as some point to a defect in the phone’s design and manufacturing that led to the screen damage.
Some users reported hearing a cracking sound before the screen stopped working and lines appeared on it. The problems users encountered ranged from screen damage and the appearance of lines to the screen stopping working completely.
During the conference, Apple boasted about using a new detailing technology that makes the border between the two screens in the inner display invisible and not clearly visible to users, as well as using a new coating layer that reduces the appearance of this border.
In an attempt to understand the cause of the problem, the team at iFixit, a well-known company specializing in phone repair and disassembly, rebuilt the hinge used by Apple using 3D printing. The team's analysis suggests that the hinge is the cause because it puts pressure on the right side of the internal screen, exposing the internal wiring to damage, according to a report by the tech website Macworld.
Does Apple repair defective phones?
According to a report by the website "Phone Arena," Apple refused to repair a phone that was damaged hours after purchase, justifying this by saying that this type of damage occurs as a result of dropping the phone or subjecting it to excessive pressure on the screen.
