Iran insists navigation in the Strait of Hormuz requires Tehran's permission

The Iranian military has emphasized that all ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz must coordinate with the Iranian armed forces, which fully manage and supervise the area.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz is still in effect and has impacted oil distribution and fuel prices in the United States, Deputy Chief of the Coordination of Iran's Armed Forces Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari told reporters on Thursday on the sidelines of an awards ceremony for military health nurses.

According to Sayyari, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy is guarding the western part of the Strait of Hormuz, while the Iranian Army operates in the eastern part and up to the northern region towards the Sea of Oman.

Sayyari again reminded that every ship sailing through the strait must coordinate with Iran.
If coordination is not carried out, the military can take action as reported, Sayyari said.

According to him, if shipping lanes were opened freely, oil distribution could proceed normally and fuel prices in the US and other countries would not be high.

Therefore, Sayyari explained, his party would continue to close traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, a vital international oil shipping route has been disrupted since early March 2026.

This happened after the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran.

The Republic of Iran has implemented its regulations regarding navigation in these waters as part of its sovereignty defense.
