Minister of Transmigration Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara plans to provide undergraduate scholarships for local residents in the Barelang transmigration area Batam, Riau Islands, to improve the capabilities of the region's human resources in filling the need for industrial labor.

Iftitah said the government is also opening up opportunities for plans to expand access to higher education up to the master's level through the development of the Patriot Campus, involving a number of national universities.
"We will open the undergraduate program with scholarships for local residents," Iftitah said after the 2026 Transmigration Festival in Tanjung Banon, Rempang Island, Batam, Riau Islands, on Sunday.
He explained that the plan was aimed at enabling local residents to pursue higher education without having to travel far from their residential areas.
Universities that are said to have the potential to be involved in developing educational activities in the area include the Bandung Institute of Technology , the University of Indonesia (UI), and Diponegoro University .
"We also don't want local people to have to go to school far away," he said.
Iftitah said that modular building facilities have been available in the Barelang transmigration area and have been used by academic activity participants from Germany for more than a week.
The activity involved 20 students and three staff from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany, who together with Undip participated in learning and field observations regarding the development of transmigration areas.
Although the facility has been used for academic activities, Iftitah has not yet detailed the start time for regular lectures through the Patriot Campus, the quota for undergraduate scholarships for Barelang residents, or the student admission mechanism.
