He explained that Pakistani importers are required to submit electronic import forms through the Pakistani banking system for goods purchased from Iran.
According to Sanandaji, sanctions on Iran's banking system have complicated the process, creating obstacles for Iranian exporters and Pakistani importers.
However, imports of goods from Pakistan to Iran are still ongoing, he said.
Sanandaji warned that if banking restrictions remain in place, Iran's exports to Pakistan will practically remain at a standstill.
Iran's banking sector is subject to extensive sanctions by the United States that restrict transactions with Iranian financial institutions.
The sanctions could also cause foreign banks that transact with sanctioned Iranian entities to face action from the United States government.
