"We desperately need points and must play as a compact team, close ranks, try to retain possession, and pose a threat to our opponents," Cortes said in an online pre-match.
He acknowledged that Persebaya is a tough team with quality players and coaches, so Persijap must implement the right strategy to face the pressure from the home team.
According to him, team cohesion is one of the important factors that can enable Persijap to suppress Persebaya's game and create goal opportunities.
Cortes said Persijap is also trying to maintain player discipline to prevent further loss of players due to red cards, which could disrupt the team's game plan.
He said losing players would make it difficult for the team to maintain its strategy and gain points, so the players must avoid violations that could potentially result in a red card.
The Spanish coach stated that Persijap is still working to improve its performance in defense, midfield, and attack after experiencing a less than satisfactory start to the season.
