The Russian Karate Federation confirmed that none of the 21 Russian athletes who were planning to compete had registered with the Polish side to participate in the tournament.

The federation explained that it had anticipated this scenario and had not recommended that the athletes travel to the tournament, but it was unable to prevent them from participating in one of the most prominent international events.

The Russian Federation stressed that it does not direct any criticism at the World Karate Federation, noting that its relations with it are characterized by constructive cooperation, while attributing what happened to the policy of the Polish side.

The tournament is held with the participation of junior and youth categories, up to the age of 21.

In a related context, the European Kickboxing Championship, which was scheduled to be held in Moldova in 2025, was cancelled due to the exclusion of Russian athletes from participating, according to reports that covered the decision at the time.

Press reports indicated that the competitions held were limited to categories of young athletes.
