Russian Academy of Sciences member Sergei Netesov has confirmed that the Hanta virus, which broke out among passengers of the MV Hondus cruise ship, could sweep the world.
Netesov said the spread could be a result of active tourism in potentially dangerous areas, including cruises to the poles and trips to South America, as well as human contact with natural sources of the virus.

It is reported that the outbreak of the virus appeared at the beginning of last May on board the Dutch cruise ship "MV Hondus", which was on a trip from Argentina to Cape Verde.
The World Health Organization reported that the total number of infections linked to the ship reached 13 cases, including three deaths, while health authorities in 33 countries were able to identify and track more than 650 people who had been in contact with the infected.
The organization announced last July the end of the Hantavirus outbreak linked to the cruise ship "MV Hondius", confirming that no new infections had been recorded since May 25 and that quarantine had been completed for all contacts.
Hantaviruses are a family of viruses that primarily infect small mammals and can be transmitted to humans through inhaling dust contaminated with the urine or droppings of infected rodents. In severe cases, the virus can cause hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which can lead to acute respiratory and cardiac failure.
