Hawsawi was injured during the match against Iraq last Tuesday, at the end of the first group stage matches, which prompted Donis to replace him in the 71st minute, and bring in Mutaib Al-Harbi in his place.
According to the Saudi newspaper “Al-Riyadh”, Hawsawi will not be able to participate in the match against Qatar scheduled for Saturday evening at Al-Inma Stadium in King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, as part of the semi-final round, and he will also not be available for the final match if the Saudi national team succeeds in qualifying for it.
The Saudi defender is continuing his treatment and rehabilitation program under the supervision of the national team's medical staff, but his chances of returning to participate during the tournament are now zero, according to the same source.
The newspaper did not reveal the reason for Hawsawi's continued inclusion in the Saudi national team's roster, despite confirmation of his absence from the remaining matches of "Al-Akhdar" in the tournament, and his not being excluded from the list.
Donis had previously excluded three players from the squad due to various injuries sustained during the tournament: goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi, defender Hassan Kadash, and midfielder Alaa Al-Hajji.
