Commander of Regional Command IV Rear Admiral TNI Berkat Widjanarko in an official statement received in Batam, Friday, said that the success was the result of developing and deepening information on three foreign nationals, consisting of two Vietnamese citizens and one Myanmar citizen.
"Based on this information, a joint team has launched an investigation and monitored activities suspected of being related to attempts to send foreign nationals through unofficial channels," he said.
In the operation, officers succeeded in securing 12 Vietnamese nationals consisting of seven women and five men who were suspected of being prepared to go to Malaysia via border waters.
Based on initial investigations, the foreign nationals are suspected of having exceeded the time limit for their stay permits or overstayed.
In addition, the foreign nationals are also suspected of violating immigration regulations because they attempted to leave Indonesian territory through unofficial channels without undergoing immigration checks at the Immigration Checkpoint as required by applicable regulations.
Regarding the motives of foreign nationals trying to leave Indonesia, further investigation is still needed, including the possibility of avoiding consequences for alleged overstays or other motives related to alleged violations of the law.
Regional Command IV continues to optimize intelligence functions and elements in the field to prevent the use of sea routes as access for illegal cross-border activities that have the potential to disrupt regional security and sovereignty.
