The U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) explained that the test was conducted using high-powered explosives at a national security site in Nevada, with the aim of improving nuclear explosion detection techniques .

During the experiment, the researchers used a wide range of sensors, including:

Accelerometers and seismometers.

Devices for detecting infrasonic waves and electromagnetic signals.

In addition to devices for taking samples of chemical substances and radioactive indicators.

According to the administration's statement, the experiment focused specifically on enhancing the ability to detect explosions carried out using "decoupling" technology, in which an underground explosion is carried out inside a cavity filled with air or gas, thereby reducing its seismic effects.

On November 3, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would conduct nuclear weapons tests, noting his belief that Russia, China and North Korea were conducting similar tests, and stressing that Washington needed to test its weapons to verify their readiness and effectiveness, without clarifying whether the tests would include nuclear explosions.
