According to experts at F6, an information security company, some cybercriminals have begun distributing software called "ZloyRAT" targeting Android devices under the guise of an application called "Traffic Police Patrols and Time Online," which is supposed to be used to find out the locations of traffic police patrols deployed on the roads in real time, the locations of traffic violation monitoring cameras, and the gas stations where fuel is available.
Experts pointed out that this software, which was discovered in the first half of this year, can infiltrate devices and collect data such as contacts, text messages, push notifications, and more. Moreover, it can be exploited to send text messages and USSD commands, and to call numbers specified by the attackers without the user's knowledge.
After launch, the application requests access to SMS messages, then contacts and call management. To avoid suspicion, the malware disguises itself as a normal website and opens it on the screen. The only sign that might indicate its presence and start working is a slowdown in the operation of the phone or smart device.
F6 experts recommend installing apps only from trusted sources, such as the RuStore store, and avoiding downloading APK files from links found in messaging apps, text messages, and advertisements. In Android system settings , it is recommended to block browsers and data control software from installing apps from unknown sources.
If a particular application installs an unknown file on your phone, experts advise deleting the file immediately, scanning the device with specialized antivirus applications, and changing the passwords for electronic accounts and banking applications.
