Instant messaging platform WhatsApp is collaborating with the Ministry of Communication and Digital and several community organizations to offer digital parenting classes for parents to support mentoring and monitoring of adolescents in the digital space.
WhatsApp VP of Business Operations and External Affairs Victoria Grand, in a company press release received in Jakarta on Friday, said that the digital parenting class includes an introduction to the parental control feature on the WhatsApp platform, which is presented to make it easier for parents to accompany and monitor teenagers as they explore the digital space.
"We want to ensure parents are aware of these features and understand how to use them. That's why we're launching this feature alongside an educational and training program in collaboration with partners trusted by parents in Indonesia," he said.
The digital parenting classes for parents are scheduled to run from October to December 2026 in Jakarta, Padang, and Cirebon, with a target of reaching around 179,000 parents.
The development of learning tools for digital parenting classes, which include modules, pocket books, educational videos, and educational games, involved Meta, WhatsApp, ICT Watch, Keluarga Kita, and the Ministry of Communication and Digital.
Learning tools for parents include materials on interactions in digital spaces, digital content, addiction, and mental health.
The WhatsApp education program includes training for coaches as well as follow-up mentoring sessions led by Parent Champions or parent advocates.
