Yemeni army claims to have recaptured strategic site from Houthis

The Yemeni army announced it had achieved new progress on the eastern front of Marib Governorate after expanding its penetration into Houthi positions and capturing a number of strategic locations.

the Yemeni army said its forces continued to exert military pressure on the Houthi group and weaken their capabilities on the southern and western fronts, without detailing new positions captured in the two regions.

The military added that its forces also managed to neutralize more than 430 Houthi personnel and destroy or disable more than 100 military vehicles and assets within 24 hours.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Taiz Military Axis, which is affiliated with the Yemeni army, also said it had targeted Houthi positions in Taiz.

The military axis said its military aircraft carried out three airstrikes targeting Houthi positions at Al-Hangar checkpoint as well as Al-Maqbaba and Al-Kamil Hills in Al-Dhabab area, west of Taiz.

Earlier, the Yemeni army said its forces had repelled a large-scale Houthi attack on Taiz. At least 16 fighters were killed after fierce clashes that lasted nearly eight hours.

The clashes are part of the government's military operation, Dawn of Yemen, launched earlier this month to retake Houthi-held areas, including the capital Sanaa.

Yemen has been wracked by conflict since the Houthi group seized Sanaa and several provinces in 2014. The situation prompted a Saudi-led coalition to intervene the following year in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government.

The latest escalation began in July after a ceasefire agreed in 2022 collapsed.
