Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo left the Portuguese national team camp before the final game against Denmark in Copenhagen, following a dispute with national team coach Jorge Jesus. This came after he sat on the bench without participating in the 2-1 win over Norway last week, despite starting in the previous match against Wales, which ended in a 1-0 victory for Portugal.

In a post on his Instagram account, Ronaldo stated that he would reveal, in due course, to the entire Portuguese people the true reasons behind this decision.

At the press conference ahead of France's match against Belgium scheduled for Monday in the UEFA Nations League, Zidane, the new coach of the "Les Bleus" national team, responded strongly to a question about whether he agreed with the opinions that Ronaldo's career has come to an end, with the French coach categorically denying this: "No, I think he deserves congratulations for his great career, what he has achieved has been exceptional."

The French coach downplayed the controversy surrounding Ronaldo's recent departure from the Portuguese national team camp in Copenhagen, saying: "I was lucky to work with him, and he is the one who made me achieve incredible things, so I take my hat off to him in respect. I will always have the highest respect for him and all the players, especially those with whom I spent a lot of time, and Cristiano in particular, who led us to achieve many championships."

It is worth noting that the duo contributed together to a golden era for Real Madrid between 2016 and 2018, during which the team won three consecutive Champions League titles, a Spanish League title, two Club World Cup titles, two European Super Cups, and one Spanish Super Cup.

Zidane is currently in charge of the French national team, with whom he achieved two away victories against Türkiye and Belgium, and a draw in his first home game in Paris against Italy.
