The official spokesman for the coalition forces, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, stated on the “X” platform: “Air defense intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the terrorist Houthi militia towards the eastern region.”
The Houthis in Yemen have not issued any statement claiming responsibility for launching the missile at Saudi Arabia, although they announced in a statement yesterday, Saturday, that they had carried out 6 operations with ballistic and cruise missiles and drones against Saudi targets, including oil facilities and military sites.
The Eastern Province is the largest region in Saudi Arabia by area and is located in the east of the country on the Arabian Gulf coast. Administratively, the Eastern Province is divided into the city of Dammam, the regional capital, and 12 governorates.
The most important governorates in it are Dammam, Al-Ahsa, Jubail, Qatif, Hafr Al-Batin and Al-Bayda.
It is worth noting that King Fahd International Airport is located in the city of Dammam in the Eastern Province, and the Houthis have announced carrying out several attacks targeting the airport and its surroundings on previous occasions and during the past few days.
News platforms also reported information indicating that air traffic through Dammam Airport had stopped, citing data from Flightradar24, a website specializing in tracking air traffic worldwide.
Sunday's developments:
The Saudi Civil Defense system announced that the danger had passed, after an early warning was issued in Riyadh and the Najran region earlier.
