Jakarta - The Directorate General of Aquaculture at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) stated that the lobster cultivation ecosystem in Batam, Riau Islands, has shown significant development.
Director General of Aquaculture at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Tb Haeru Rahayu, said that the aquaculture ecosystem showed significant development supported by information that also met the feed needs of farmed lobsters.
"Why was the lobster modeling built in Batam? Because based on scientific studies, its waters are rich in nutrients for the growth of shellfish as lobster feed," said Director General of Aquaculture of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Tb Haeru in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday.
He said that the Directorate General of Aquaculture of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries continues to develop the lobster cultivation ecosystem in Indonesia.
He said that the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries had collaborated with shellfish farmers in Tanjung Uma, in that area.
"Thank God, the results are good, we can cut feed costs by up to 35 percent," he said.
He said that good cooperation with shellfish farming groups in Batam resulted in mutually beneficial benefits.
"Farmers will be able to increase their green mussel harvest by around 30 percent of the previous production volume to meet the demand of restaurants," he said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, in this case the Batam Marine Aquaculture Center (BPBL), can obtain mussels for lobster feed needs in lobster cultivation modeling.
"The mussels that have been thrown away by mussel farmers in Batam, are now taken by BPBL Batam for lobster feed," he said.
Furthermore, the Director General of Aquaculture at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Tb Haeru, or Tebe as he is familiarly known, said that the shellfish is a quality feed for lobsters with good nutrient content.
"Similar to brown mussels, these mussels are not for human consumption," said Tebe.
Meanwhile, Head of BPBL Batam Ikhsan Kamil said that cooperation with the shellfish farming group in Tanjung Uma Batam had shown good results.
"The group of farmers has started harvesting mussels. The harvest is in accordance with the target, so it can cut feed costs by almost 35 percent," said Ikhsan.
