Exclusive sources revealed to RT that a meeting held between Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and a number of Misrata rebel leaders identified seven key tasks to be assigned to the new joint operations room.
According to sources, participants in the meeting stressed the importance of holding presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, affirming their categorical rejection of any new transitional phase or the formation of an alternative government outside the ballot box. This signaled their commitment to the democratic process as the only solution to end Libya's political crisis.
The sources stated that the seven tasks assigned to the joint operations room are:
1. Implementing the security arrangements approved by the Presidential Council and monitoring compliance with them.
2. Monitor suspicious or uncoordinated movements in the capital and intervene immediately to prevent escalation.
3. Dismantling and integrating armed formations outside the state’s authority into the security and military institutions.
4. Securing sovereign facilities and vital installations and preventing any armed attacks or threats.
5. Coordinating security efforts between the Ministries of Defense and Interior to unify field decisions.
6. Support the Interim Military Arrangements Committee in implementing its decisions and enhancing stability.
7. Establishing a legitimate security presence on the streets and reassuring citizens that any confrontations will not escalate.
The agreement on this room comes after sudden field movements in Tripoli, which the Ministry of Defense considered a violation of the truce and security understandings.
The Ministry of Defense stressed in its statement that it intervened, imposed discipline, and returned the mobile forces to their previous positions.
