Meta testing direct messaging feature in Threads

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the social media platform Threads is now starting to test a separate direct message (DM) inbox feature from Instagram .

With the separate DM feature, Threads users no longer need to open or switch to the Instagram app to send messages to other users on the platform.

As reported by Tech Crunch on Friday, this new feature will be tested on a limited basis in several regions, such as Hong Kong, Thailand, and Argentina, before being expanded to other countries in the near future. For now, the DM feature only supports conversations between two users, not including group messages.

Previously, many users complained that their follower base on Threads was different from Instagram, and not all users were actively using Instagram. This created a need for a standalone direct messaging feature within Threads.
