Kim Perry is a certified personal trainer dedicated to assisting mothers in maintaining their fitness during and after pregnancy, enabling them to have increased energy for motherhood. As a mother of four, Kim's path into pre- and post-natal fitness was motivated by her personal experiences. Today, she has developed a flourishing community and workout platform that supports mothers in staying fit and healthy throughout all stages of motherhood. What motivated you to embark on entrepreneurship?
After the birth of my first child, I realized immediately that a traditional 9-5 job was not for me. At that time, I was teaching graphic design, which I initially considered a good position due to having summers off, but I lacked passion for it.
At one point, I thought, if I am going to spend this much time away from my child, it should be for something I am truly passionate about. Thus, I began to immerse myself in entrepreneurship. I enrolled in classes, even though I had not yet defined what my business would be, but I was determined it would come to fruition.
I was deeply committed, and two years later, I successfully transitioned from my teaching position to become a full-time mompreneur.

I have always had a strong interest in health, fitness, and wellness. When I became pregnant, my body underwent significant changes, which was quite overwhelming. While my fitness community was becoming stronger and leaner, I felt myself becoming rounder and slower, which was a lonely experience. I was also quite frustrated that I could not engage in the workouts I had previously enjoyed, and I found the prenatal options available to be uninspiring. I realized there had to be a better alternative. That’s when I decided to create my own solution, and my niche evolved into pre and postnatal fitness.
I take great pride in the trust I have established with my community. I believe I serve as a voice for mothers seeking improved fitness options. It has been fulfilling to engage with the mom community and assist in developing solutions for many of the challenges we face. Additionally, I am honored to be involved in these mothers' lives during such a significant period, encompassing pregnancy, postpartum, and motherhood.
What various revenue streams constitute your business?
I offer online fitness programs and conduct fitness series through Kajabi. Furthermore, I engage in affiliate marketing, collaborating with brands to earn commissions on sales.
I also participate in brand partnerships, where a brand collaborates with me to promote their offerings, whether through Instagram Stories, Reels, or TikTok, for which I receive a fixed payment.
What measures have you implemented to gain ownership over your audience?
I initially began on Instagram, but I quickly recognized the necessity of having a website. I experimented with email collection applications, but they did not fully meet my requirements.
I appreciate having my website as a reference point for my audience. Much of my communication occurs on Instagram, where I connect with numerous mothers and expectant women seeking solutions and workouts. I guide them to my email list through opt-ins. I provide several free guides, which have significantly aided in expanding my email list and reducing my dependence on social media.
Establishing ownership was a priority for me from the outset of my business journey. One could easily be locked out of their Instagram account, removed from social media, or lose their audience in an instant, leaving no trace of where to find them. In addition to my email list, I also launched a podcast as an alternative means to connect with, engage, and support my audience.
What does being a mompreneur signify to you?
Being a mompreneur is an incredibly rewarding experience. I enjoy the advantages of both worlds. I can operate as a business owner and express my creativity, while also dedicating ample time to my children, ensuring I do not miss their school performances and witnessing my baby's first steps.
How do you manage the delicate balance between being available for your family and developing your business?
I have designed my program in such a way that my physical presence is not required. I offer highly passive courses that I can record and work on during my baby's nap times or while my children are at school. This allows me to be fully engaged with them when they return home, as my courses are online and functioning independently.
Additionally, I have had to identify the tasks that I cannot accomplish while my children are at home. I compile these tasks as my priority list for when I have the chance, such as when I have childcare or when my husband is available to look after the kids, allowing me to take a moment to complete some work.
Engaging in this work is something I am genuinely passionate about. I find great joy in developing these workouts and crafting the emails and marketing materials associated with them. It serves as a creative outlet for me, making it a priority in my life. Not only does it generate income for my family, but it is also enjoyable.
What systems or routines assist you in effectively balancing your business and motherhood?
Here are the systems I have implemented to help me manage my responsibilities as a mompreneur:
Support: I have virtual assistants who assist me in organizing everything behind the scenes of my business. Previously, I managed all of this on my own.
Automations: I find it extremely beneficial to have automations established so that I do not need to manually send emails, for example. I have also been utilizing ManyChat to set up triggers in my direct messages. Therefore, if someone sends me a message, they will automatically receive a link to an opt-in page or landing page on my website.
Routines: Establishing a morning routine is incredibly beneficial. I rise at 5:30 AM, which is when I fit in my workout. I film, edit, share on social media, and check emails all before the children wake up, and this has been a significant game changer. If I can achieve that small amount of productivity in the morning, it prepares me for the entire day.
What challenges were you facing in your business that Kajabi helped you solve?
Prior to using Kajabi, I was utilizing a different website service that did not suit my needs. One of the initial challenges I encountered was that my workouts were initially intended to be provided as written PDFs. However, I realized that presenting them in video format would be far more beneficial, and I sought a website that could host these videos.
Aside from YouTube, I was not aware of many alternatives, making Kajabi the ideal solution.
How did you hear about Kajabi, and what motivated you to try it out?
I began using Kajabi early in my entrepreneurial journey. A business mentor of mine had been utilizing it and praised its effectiveness, prompting me to give it a try, which turned out to be the solution to my challenges.
Knowing that I would feature video workouts on my website, I aimed for them to appear professional, be streamlined, and be part of a comprehensive package. I desired to consolidate my videos, email marketing, contact list, online program, and sales pages into one platform. After trying Kajabi, I never looked back at other platforms.
What were your first impressions of Kajabi?
My initial impression of Kajabi, both as a user and a business owner, was that it was remarkably user-friendly. I had taken web design courses in college, which I found unenjoyable. However, Kajabi exceeded my expectations in terms of ease of use.
The templates enhanced the appearance of my content beyond what I had envisioned. I did not have to concern myself with coding or technical issues. My primary goal was functionality, and Kajabi delivered on that front.
How has using Kajabi payments impacted your business?
As a business owner, I am responsible for all accounting tasks. Previously, I had to navigate various platforms to tally our sales and total revenue, as well as conduct checks and balances, which is not my strong suit. To anyone contemplating or desiring to launch a business, my advice is to begin before you feel fully prepared. It is unnecessary to have everything figured out. You do not need to be the leading expert or possess a hundred thousand followers to initiate a business. Just take action now. That is precisely what I did. I started investing in business courses even before I had a product to offer. I simply knew that I wanted to pursue this path. I felt a strong drive and passion to succeed, and I trusted my instincts, which has led me to where I am today.
What are your future ambitions and goals for your business?
I am incredibly enthusiastic about the future and eager to witness the evolution of my community. As mothers, we are experiencing changes as our children grow older, and I look forward to seeing the direction we take in the next five to ten years.
Additionally, I aspire to expand my business beyond just myself. I have developed it around a personal brand, and I aim to build upon that foundation and elevate the level of fitness available to my community. I also hope to create more physical products that complement the workouts.
I am thrilled to continue growing my business and to engage with more mothers. Furthermore, I wish to organize more in-person events now that I have established this community, allowing for live workouts and retreats.
