The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries stated that as many as 1,200 prospective male and female cadets have passed the second stage of selection for New Student Admissions for the Ministry's Marine and Fisheries Vocational Higher Education Units, for the 2025/2026 Academic Year.
"Based on the selection results, 1,200 new students will be placed in 11 KKP vocational higher education institutions spread from west to east Indonesia," said Head of the KKP's Marine and Fisheries Human Resources Extension and Development Agency (BPPSDMKP), I Nyoman Radiarta, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He said that the 1,200 new students would be placed at the Jakarta Fisheries Business Expert Polytechnic (AUP) (288 people), Sidoarjo Marine Fisheries Polytechnic (250), Karawang KP Polytechnic (107), Bitung KP Polytechnic (80), Jembrana KP Polytechnic (80), Bone KP Polytechnic (77), and Dumai KP Polytechnic (76).
In addition, 71 people will be placed at the Kupang KP Polytechnic, 70 at the Sorong KP Polytechnic, 66 at the Pangandaran KP Polytechnic, and 35 people at the Wakatobi KP-AK.
Although quota adjustments have been made to make it more proportional, access for children of key actors in the maritime and fisheries sector remains a priority.
Through affirmative action and inclusive selection schemes, children of fishermen, fish farmers, salt farmers, and fishery product processors and marketers are still given special opportunities to access quality vocational education.
He said that KKP's vocational higher education is moving towards a more strategic future.
The Marine and Fisheries Polytechnic (Polytechnic KP), as the main pillar of vocational education in this sector, is currently transforming into the Ocean Institute of Indonesia (OII).
The transformation not only includes a name change, but also a new direction that positions OII as a center of excellence in international maritime vocational studies.
Education is designed to produce human resources who are resilient, adaptive to climate change, and able to respond to global challenges.
"With a more integrated and quality-based approach, the selection process aims to identify the best candidates who are ready to become superior human resources," said Nyoman.
