Padang Police arrest fake soldier in child molestation case





The Criminal Research Unit of the Padang City Police, West Sumatra arrested a young man NR on suspicion of having committed indecent acts against an underage woman.

"The perpetrator was arrested without resistance, we secured various pieces of evidence from him," said Head of the Padang Police Criminal Research Unit, Commissioner M Yasin in Padang, Sunday.

He said that now NR, who is a resident of Koto Tangah, Padang, has been detained and is undergoing legal examination for his actions.

The case was handled by investigators at the Women and Children's Services Unit (PPA) of the Padang Police Criminal Research Unit.

Yasin further explained that the perpetrator was charged with Article 332 of the Criminal Code concerning taking away underage women without the permission of their parents or guardians.

"In addition to Article 332 of the Criminal Code, the perpetrator can also be charged under the Law on Child Protection with a maximum prison sentence of fifteen years," he explained.

He explained that the case came to light when the victim's parents reported to the police that their child had been missing for the past week.

Initially, the victim asked his parents for permission to go on a trip to one of the tourist attractions in the Padang City area, but since then the victim's whereabouts have been unknown.

After conducting tracking and investigation, the Padang Police Criminal Investigation Unit team finally found the victim in a boarding house with the perpetrator.

Based on the investigation, it was revealed that the perpetrator NR claimed to be a marine with the rank of Second Sergeant (Serda) to influence and deceive his victim.

"The perpetrator claimed to be an active marine with the rank of Sergeant and then persuaded the victim to come with him," he explained.

While at the boarding house, the perpetrator admitted that he had had sexual intercourse with the victim several times.

The police stated that the perpetrator lied about being a military member because NR could not show military identification as he claimed.

In fact, from further investigations carried out by the police, it was discovered that the perpetrator had no connection with the TNI or other state apparatus.
