On August 8, the Israeli security cabinet approved a plan proposed by Netanyahu for a gradual occupation of the Gaza Strip. The plan would begin with the occupation of Gaza City by displacing its population of approximately one million to the south, followed by encircling the city and carrying out incursions into residential areas.
The second phase includes the occupation of refugee camps in the central Gaza Strip, large parts of which have been destroyed by the occupation.
According to the Israeli plan, more than 800,000 Palestinians are scheduled to be transferred to designated "humanitarian" areas in the southern Gaza Strip in the first phase of the operation.
