Ensenada City Council rejects municipalization of water

Ensenada, August 4.- With the vote of eight council members—seven of whom were with the mayor—the Ensenada City Council rejected the creation of a municipal water and sewage service operator proposed by Mayor Armando Ayala Robles in a session called as an emergency on Wednesday afternoon.

When the vote on Mayor Ayala Robles' proposal was being held, he suddenly decided to suspend the session, even though the majority of the votes cast up to that point were against his proposal.

Seven opposed the motion, four supported it. Minutes later, the session and voting resumed, with the final result being eight votes against and seven in favor.

Councilwoman Brenda Valenzuela Tortoledo and Carmen Jiménez García spoke out against the proposal, arguing that they had not been provided with sufficient information to analyze the issue, nor had internal processes been respected, and that everything had been carried out in an extremely hasty manner, based on a decision made in the same terms by legislators of the 23rd Legislature.

Prior to this council meeting, a meeting was held at the City Hall with several council members and municipal officials, including Salomón Faz Apodaca, Secretary of Water Management, Sanitation, and Protection, and Marcelino Márquez Wong, director of the Ensenada State Public Services Commission.
