Mexicali, January 3. Two candidates for mayor of Tijuana and San Quintín, and two more for local deputies by relative majority principle for districts 9 and 17, are in the process of collecting citizen signatures to obtain independent candidacies, announced Raúl Guzmán Gómez, executive secretary of the Baja California State Electoral Institute (IEEBC).
He specified that the first began collecting signatures on December 8, and according to the preliminary cutoff date, on January 2, the independent candidate for the San Quintín City Council, Alfredo Aviña Galván, has 93.24 percent of the required signatures.
Meanwhile, the independent candidate for Tijuana City Council, Javier Esteban Capella Ibarra, has a 0.81 percent lead.
Regarding the independent congressional race, Karina Japa Martínez, candidate for District 9, began this process on December 22 and is 0.99 percent complete.
