Give her program back, says Sheinbaum about Macalpin's dismissal

Tijuana, October 9. "Give him back his show," said President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo regarding the dismissal of Mexicali Channel 66 host Gustavo Macalpin. Macalpin was notified of his dismissal Tuesday night while on air by the company's owner, Luis Arnoldo Cabada Alvídrez. He apologized for his actions but clarified that the decision was made for commercial reasons.

Questioned about the topic that has been trending because the dismissal was made in the middle of a television program, and because it is claimed that it occurred after the host criticized the husband of the governor of Baja California, Sheinbaum stated that "I asked Marina (Ávila Olmeda) who was there in the morning, obviously she does not agree, it is evidently the director's decision (...) but if the reason was because he spoke badly of the governor or someone, it is not correct, from my point of view."

On Tuesday night—24 hours after he fired Gustavo Macalpin on air—Cabada Alvídrez, in a phone call broadcast on the program of Channel 66 news director Francisco Javier García, apologized to the audience and the host "for the insensitive way he publicly addressed an issue that should have been private," but clarified that "the reason for leaving Ciudadano 2.0 (Macalpin's program) was not due to any censorship or political pressure."
