Residents of the Hacienda Agua Caliente subdivision held a protest at City Hall to demand that the Ministry of Territorial, Urban, and Environmental Development (SDTUA) comply with court rulings ordering a halt to high-rise construction in the area, as it violates land use regulations.
The residents' lawyer, Juan Marcos Gutiérrez, said the problem began four years ago, when a developer obtained a license to build a 120-apartment building .
At that time, they objected because the land use did not allow the construction of multi-family homes , which led a judge to grant them an injunction that halted construction.
In that same area, they began construction of a 30-apartment building a year and a half ago, prompting another appeal. The court ruling was filed with the SDTUA in January, but no authority has stopped the work .
Gutiérrez said a building permit was also granted for a commercial plaza expansion of approximately 700 square meters with only seven parking spaces.
Customers use the curb of a park to park, which is prohibited by municipal regulations and has hindered the mobility of nearby residents.
The protesters expressed their discontent with the authorities, but were confident that with the new injunctions they recently obtained, they would be able to stop the disorder in their neighborhood.
