Taxi drivers block Boulevard 2000 and the Tijuana-Tecate freeway.

Hundreds of taxi drivers from the Red and Black lines of the Metropolitan System blocked Boulevard 2000 and the Tijuana-Tecate freeway, and announced they could extend their protests to the San Ysidiro and Otay Mesa border crossings.

Taxi drivers began their demonstration at the facilities of the Sustainable Mobility Institute (IMOS) in Tijuana, demanding that authorities stop issuing excessive fines and halt the state initiative to implement a new mass transit route in the Agua Caliente-Díaz Ordaz corridor.

Taxi driver protests have been frequent since the Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda administration published a decree in the state's Official Gazette declaring public transportation services in the Agua Caliente-Díaz Ordaz Corridor overcrowded. This decree also canceled the issuance of new taxi permits and the renewal of existing ones.

The director of IMOS, Jorge Alberto Gutiérrez Topete, assured that the new transportation route will not cause taxi drivers to lose their licenses or their permits or rights, and invited them to join the company that will operate the Agua Caliente route.

Joaquín Baltazar, leader of the Rojo y Negro taxis, asserted that the protests continue because the state government is not complying with the agreements reached and blamed the director of IMOS, Jorge Alberto Topete, for acting as a partner or employee of the Verde y Crema company.
