Shared taxi drivers from different groups marched this afternoon to the access gates to the United States - which caused the Border Patrol to partially close the Tijuana-San Diego international crossing - in protest of the reorganization plan of the state's Sustainable Mobility Institute (IMOS), which aims to restrict the number of units circulating on one of the city's primary roads - Díaz Ordaz Boulevard and its continuation, Agua Caliente -, thus forcing them to provide service in more remote areas.
The San Ysidro border crossing was the last stop on a day of protests and blockades by transporters, especially the Red and Black (their name is associated with the paint color of their vehicles), who began blocking the Tijuana-Tecate freeway, then moved to Boulevard 2000 - which connects with the municipality of Playas de Rosarito - and ended up taking over the city center and the border crossing area, strangling the city.
Not only were the National Guard and state and municipal police mobilized, but the Border Patrol also implemented some of the exercises rehearsed days earlier to close the border in case groups of migrants attempted a mass crossing.
Closing
The border closure lasted only a few minutes, but since the checkpoint is located in the middle of a residential and commercial area, traffic impacted the entire Río zone. Once cleared, traffic flowed toward the United States as usual.
