The Municipal Police officers who committed acts of abuse of authority during the arrest of a man remain active within the force, announced José Fernando Sánchez González, head of the Municipal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPCM).
On Thursday, September 5, the Baja California State Human Rights Commission ( CEDHBC ) issued recommendation 5/2024 to the SSPCM for the actions of four officers who arbitrarily detained and beat a man between the night of September 19 and the early morning of September 20, 2020.
The victim was brought before the Public Prosecutor's Office, but was released on September 21 after the detention was ruled unlawful . She subsequently filed a complaint with the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) for the crime of abuse of authority.
"(The police officers) are active . The Municipal District Attorney's Office initiated the investigation at the time. We will not provide any further information until we have contacted the Municipal District Attorney's Office to determine the status of each one," reported the Municipal Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection.
