Samsung Electronics Co. will produce Apple Inc.'s next-generation chips at its factory in Texas, the United States, the company announced.
In its press release, Apple stated that it is working with Samsung at its semiconductor plant in Austin, Texas, to develop innovative new chip manufacturing technology.
"Apple is also working with Samsung at its production facility in Austin, Texas, to launch new technology in chip manufacturing that has never been used before anywhere in the world," Apple said in a statement, quoted by Yonhap on Thursday.
"By bringing this technology to the US first, this facility will supply chips that optimize the power and performance of Apple products, including iPhone devices shipped worldwide," the iPhone maker said.
Industry observers suggest the chip in question is likely the CMOS image sensor (CIS) that will be used in next-generation iPhones.
