Mexicali, May 5.- Six doctors from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) were charged with negligent homicide with aggravated medical professional liability. On January 26, 2020, María del Socorro Martínez died due to medical negligence and malpractice after being treated at Clinic 16 and Regional Hospital 30 of the IMSS in Mexicali, where her relatives took her for a misdiagnosed urinary tract infection.
The victim's children filed a complaint, and the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Attorney General's Office obtained from the federal judge the indictment of doctors Michelle Hernández, José Antonio González, Jesús Guillermo Landavazo, Carmen María Sañudo, Jesús Mario Dueñas, and Gerardo López.
The judge specializing in the accusatory criminal justice system of the Federal Judicial Branch set a two-month deadline for the conclusion of the investigation.
The specialists are facing trial in freedom, as no pretrial detention was ordered, and they continue to work. The next hearing is scheduled for July 4.
