Ensenada, July 27.—“They didn’t have the federal permits. How would I have seen myself paying that?” Marina del Pilar questioned during her morning press conference, promising that in the investigation against the former governor and public servants related to the contract with Next Energy, “there will be no impunity, but there will be no witch hunt, either.”
During her morning press conference, the state governor was asked whether the former governor and his aides could walk free from the charges the current administration is seeking to bring against them. She called Ricardo Iván Carpio, the state attorney general, to discuss the status of the investigation.
"As you well know, this is in the initial investigation stage (…) a date has already been set for the middle of next month, when the Judiciary will decide to summon the people involved in the case being investigated for various criminal acts, supposedly constituting, according to our legislation, crimes committed by public servants," the prosecutor explained.
The lawsuit, alleging embezzlement, abuse of authority, improper embezzlement, collusion of public servants, unlawful use of powers and authority, unlawful exercise of public service, and "whatever else may arise," will have its first hearing on August 16, which the former governor and five former officials of his administration must attend.
