They denounce alleged negligence by Mexicali police for failing to arrest a suspected rapist.

Mexicali, February 24. On her first day of work at a taco shop, 15-year-old Hanna Renata was raped by the owner of the establishment, who also beat her and recorded her. Although she managed to call her mother for help and a man prevented the attacker from taking her in a car, the Mexicali municipal police who responded to the call for help let him go.

Lilian "N", the minor's mother, made the accusation against the agents after filing a complaint with the Mexicali Municipal Syndic for alleged inaction or negligence, since she claimed that the alleged perpetrator, identified as Saúl "N", was in the public street when the uniformed officers arrived to attend to the complaint and did not arrest him, so now they fear that he will flee the country since he has Mexican and United States nationality, where he already has a complaint for rape.

He explained that when the police arrived—there were four or six of them in two or three patrol cars, he said—the defendant had the car running, but he turned it off and removed the keys. While claiming he hadn't done anything, he even drank a beer. With him were Hanna and a young man identified as "an angel," who prevented the man from taking the young woman he was trying to force into the vehicle.

The witness said that he (the taco shop owner) seemed "very big and his daughter very small" and they couldn't be a couple, so he not only prevented her from getting into the car, but also waited for help and even went to file a statement at the State Attorney General's Office.
