Validated signatures reach 85% of those required for consultation

Mexico City, January 15.- The National Electoral Institute (INE) has preliminarily verified 2,363,459 signatures of support for the recall of the mandate , representing 85.69 percent of the 2,758,227 signatures required.

Of the total support verified through January 13, 1,085,051 were collected through the INE app and 1,278,408 were collected in paper format.

Furthermore, according to the progress report on the signature review, 19 states have now reached the 3 percent threshold of citizen support on their nominal lists, exceeding the territorial dispersion required by law: Aguascalientes, Baja California Sur, Campeche, Colima, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Morelos, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, and Zacatecas.

Other states close to reaching this threshold are Baja California (95.17 percent) and Veracruz (71.49 percent). The states with the lowest percentages are Jalisco (9.09 percent), Guanajuato (12.29 percent), and Coahuila (13.43 percent).

Yesterday, INE President Lorenzo Córdova toured the facilities where the paper support received is stored. He stated that democracy never stops; it is recreated every day, "and it's here to stay, because it has those who defend it."

Meanwhile, Hamlet García (Morena), the alternate legislative advisor to the INE, asked the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit to reject the "unconstitutional" request to expand the institute's budget
