Mexico City, June 9. Seeking to create a platform to recover and preserve the collective memory of the efforts of activists and artists who have generated material to highlight the violence in the country, the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Mexico launched the website experienciasparalamemoria.mx, which chronicles several initiatives to this end.
The portal, active since Wednesday, features material from various visual artists, filmmakers, and writers who have collaborated to publicize cases of disappearances, femicides, homicides, or forced displacement .
"This is a site that seeks to compile various experiences in the country related to violent events. As a country, we have a long history of impunity , and the state always strives to ensure that these events are forgotten . What we're doing is bringing together various collective efforts to ensure that these cases are not forgotten," explained Rodolfo Aguirre, coordinator of the foundation's Democracy program.
Instead of specific cases, the portal presents, for example, sculptures and anti-monuments that seek to commemorate various collective cases , documentaries, reports and video material, as well as photographs and texts.
Groups such as the United Forces for Our Disappeared in Coahuila, among others, participated in its development. Representatives of the Heinrich Böll Foundation called on various groups across the country to make this space their own to present their material on this topic.
