WhatsApp has added a passkey feature to access end-to-end encrypted chat backups .
With this feature, users can use methods such as fingerprint or face scanning or using the previous device's screen lock code to unlock WhatsApp chat backups when the phone is lost.
According to a TechCrunch report on Thursday (30/10), WhatsApp has not had an encryption layer for chat backups for years.
However, Meta, the parent company, introduced an end-to-end encryption option in 2021 to protect chat backups using a 64-character password or encryption key.
The problem is, users must remember the backup password or save the encryption key in order to recover the data.
With the presence of passkey , users no longer need to remember or search for device passwords.
