APJII encourages inclusive and sustainable digital transformation

Indonesia's digital transformation is now entering a new phase, focusing not only on expanding access but also emphasizing sustainability, inclusivity, and efficiency across all levels of society.

This emerged in a discussion themed “Beyond Digitalization: Rethinking Business Model for the Tech Age” which was part of the 2025 National Technology Summit series. The discussion featured two key speakers, namely EVP Group Application Management of Bank Central Asia (BCA) Thomas Lahey and Secretary of Communications of the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) Tigor Jackson.

Thomas stated that BCA's digitalization journey began long before the term "digital transformation" became popular. Although digital services are now dominated by mobile channels, BCA maintains a traditional branch network to reach areas without optimal internet access.

"We still open maybe 10 branches each year because not everyone has good internet access. There are still areas that haven't been reached," Thomas said in Jakarta on Thursday.

He added that the sustainability of digital transformation is not only determined by technology, but also by the inclusiveness of services and digital literacy so that society is not left behind in the flow of innovation.

Meanwhile, Tigor Jackson highlighted changes in the business ecosystem of internet service providers ( ISPs), which are now more oriented towards service quality.

"ISPs now place more emphasis on providing high-quality services and providing maintenance support , rather than simply chasing customer numbers," he said.
