Apple is reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Google to pay around US$1 billion, equivalent to around Rp16.7 trillion, per year to use Google's Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) model in a major update to its Siri virtual assistant.
According to a Bloomberg report, as reported by Tech Crunch on Thursday, this move represents a major change for Apple, which has previously relied more on its own internal technology.
However, the tech giant plans to use Google's AI model as a stopgap measure until Apple's own AI system is powerful enough to replace it, including supporting a number of new features that will be included in the next version of Siri.
Google's custom AI model reportedly has 1.2 trillion parameters, a measure of software complexity and capability. This figure far exceeds the capabilities of Apple's current model.
