Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital (Wamenkomdigi) Nezar Patria said that collaboration between universities and industry is one model for building national artificial intelligence (AI) governance.
Nezar stated that research collaboration promotes regulatory readiness and can encourage strengthening national AI governance.
"Our goal is to strengthen collaboration and build artificial intelligence governance in Indonesia," Nezar said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
He assessed that the collaboration between Gadjah Mada University and Telkom in the development of the AI Center of Excellence (AI CoE), which was recently agreed upon, is a real example of campus and industry involvement in building national AI governance.
Nezar said the AI Center of Excellence at Gadjah Mada University will be a driving force for national research to support Indonesia's digital economy.
"The establishment of the AI Center of Excellence at Gadjah Mada University is one form of collaboration we've been hoping for. And we greatly appreciate Telkom's support for the establishment of the AI Center of Excellence at UGM," he said.
