Senior High School (SRMA) 20 Sleman, Yogyakarta presents a new approach to character education by integrating information technology and dormitory life.
The Principal of SRMA 20 Sleman, Reti Sudarsih, said that this approach is an effective way to develop discipline, responsibility, and independence in students from underprivileged families.
"I stayed in the dormitory for the first two weeks because many of the students were homesick. From there, we learned to understand each of their characters," Reti said in Sleman on Friday.
He said that character building is done from small things, such as neatness of the room and discipline in time management, which is carried out with daily guidance from teachers and dormitory guardians.
According to him, every activity at this school is directed at developing soft skills , character building, and a sense of ownership.
Through the “Thematic Friday” program, students are trained in various aspects, then “Taqwa Friday” to strengthen spirituality, “Healthy Friday” for fitness, “Clean Friday” for environmental awareness, and “Work Friday” to hone creativity.
"The children create works based on their interests, from short stories and caricatures to animations. All of their work is compiled into a book at graduation," he explained.
