The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has asked operators to develop a system to protect against online fraud.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital  has asked mobile operators (opsel) to build a stronger consumer protection system, amid the increasing trend of fraud cases via telephone calls and SMS which are causing significant losses.

"Operators must have business responsibility. Operators must protect their customers. Similarly, the government must protect the Indonesian people by creating policies," said Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, Director General of the Digital Ecosystem at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Komdigi), at the Komdigi office.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, said Edwin, will soon ask mobile operators to develop infrastructure or technology to protect users from fraud, especially to suppress spam calls by masking or disguising telephone numbers to conceal the perpetrator's identity.

"In the near future, the Minister (Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid) will personally make an announcement. They have been asked to develop anti-scam infrastructure and technology to protect customers from spam calls that use masking , " he said.
