PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) is deploying its fleet to distribute aid and energy to disaster-affected areas in Sumatra, while also increasing the readiness of its sailors in extreme situations.
In an official statement received in Jakarta on Friday, PIS Acting Corporate Secretary Vega Pita explained that the recent extreme weather conditions have posed a challenge for the shipping fleet in distributing energy.
"However, we are preparing mitigation measures to ensure the continued distribution of fuel and LPG, such as rerouting and preparing our fleet to anticipate the acceleration of additional stock. Furthermore, our ships are also ready to be optimized for distributing aid to flood-affected areas in Sumatra," he said.
PIS continues to strive to maintain domestic energy supplies amidst extreme weather challenges. For example, at the Medan Fuel Terminal, three ships carrying 280,000 barrels of Pertalite and 30,000 kiloliters of diesel fuel had difficulty docking.
The difficulties were experienced since November 23, 2025, before successfully docking on December 1, 2025. While waiting for the ship to dock, PIS coordinated intensively with PT Pertamina Patra Niaga to mitigate the transfer of fuel distribution from IT Lhokseumawe, FT Kisaran, and FT Siantar to FT Medan Group via tanker trucks since November 23, 2025.
This is coupled with the acceleration of the fleet by providing two ships to transport fuel supplies consisting of 100 thousand barrels of Pertalite and 6 thousand KL of diesel fuel in the Sumatra area, which will arrive on November 28–29, 2025.
PIS also contributed by distributing energy and community aid to flood-affected communities in Sumatra, including North Sumatra, particularly in Sibolga.
"We continue to move quickly to address fuel transportation challenges and hope that weather conditions will improve so that energy distribution can run optimally and aid can reach affected communities," Vega said.
Meanwhile, PIS has prepared a total of 332 tankers carrying crude oil, fuel, and LPG to ensure energy distribution to remote areas of the country during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 periods.
In addition, PIS has also prepared 338 support vessels (tugboats) from PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental (PTK) to ensure smooth docking and loading and unloading processes at the port.
